Directions for Writing Activity

1. Write a sentence.

2. Identify the parts of speech in your sentence (e.g., verb, noun).

3. Write a paragraph about your topic.

4. Underline the topic sentence of your paragraph.

5. Remove any sentences or phrases that do not relate to the topic sentence.

Example of Writing Activity

1. Sentence: The dog runs fast.

   • Parts of Speech:
     • Verb: runs
     • Noun: dog

2. Paragraph:

   • Topic: My favorite pet.
   • Paragraph: My favorite pet is my dog. He is always happy and loves to play. He runs fast in the yard and barks when he sees a squirrel. He is the best companion ever.
   • Topic Sentence: My favorite pet is my dog.
   • Revised Paragraph (after removing unrelated sentences): My favorite pet is my dog. He runs fast in the yard and barks when he sees a squirrel.
